About John Diak

Diak’s top priorities as County Commissioner would include reducing/eliminating taxes, tolls and fees; governance through fiscal responsibility; supporting law enforcement and their ability to work collaboratively at all levels of government; continuing to build a transportation network to support our growing community all while continuing to actively engage and listening to the citizens to ensure the Board is in alignment with the community needs.

A Douglas County resident since 1983, John’s interest in public service can be traced back to his engagement in the Stay Alive on Highway 83 campaign while attending Ponderosa High School (1986-1988). With high school students dying on Parker Road (State Highway 83), the Parker community rose up to force the State to improve/expand Parker Road despite continuous messaging from the State of Colorado there was no funding to improve this road. Over the years, he continued to give back by participating in local projects such as Praying Hands Ranch, Parker Senior Center, Double Angel Field and the Miller Safety Center and continues to serve the community through the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club of Parker and other various non-profit agencies in various roles.

Diak attended Colorado State University, where he earned a dual degree in Finance and Human Development and Family Studies. Diak also attended University of Colorado – Denver earning a master’s degree in Finance before coming home to Parker to work for Western States Surveying, a locally-owned and operated land surveying company. Working as the Controller, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Finance for Westen States from 1990 to 2006, John was intimately involved in many of Colorado’s large-scale infrastructure projects, including the I-70 Glenwood Canyon Final Link – Hanging Lake, Denver International Airport, E-470 Design/Build and the I-25 expansion known as T-REX. Representative clients included Douglas County, Town of Parker, Intermountain Rural Electric Association (IREA), Parker Water & Sanitation, Colorado Department of Transportation and a host of other local, county, state and federal governmental entities as well as various private sector clients.
